Neiman Marcus Front Entrance Window Display Design S/S

Through the National Black Art Festival’s (NBAF) Emerging Designer competition, I was challenged to create a design for Neiman Marcus that would sell. In the experience, I gained hands on industry knowledge and skills from start to finish, including designing and producing a garment for sale and reproduction.

In this project, I had a time frame of three weeks to design and plan a store look. I was required to price, market and design around Neiman Marcus’ typical customer and present to a panel of nine judges. I created an efficient cost sheet to total the wholesale and retail prices for my garment. I determined a brand identification and whom my competitors were with this look. I researched the Neiman Marcus location and the typical customer.

PROCESS

Technical Design

I decided to go for daywear with a Southern belle style to it. The season is spring. I considered all factors when designing my garments for the typical Neiman Marcus customer. I decided to design a semi-fitted surreal hand-painted floral cocktail dress to go along with my ankle-length spring green trench coat. I wanted to go for an elegant, yet innovative, fresh spring look. Inspired by the trend of the nothing shoe, transparent, I decided to add cut outs of transparent PVC flowers to go along with my ankle length spring green trench coat.
